 BRUNSWICK COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

 VISION 2025

In October 2004, the Brunswick County Board of Supervisors established its official vision and mission for Brunswick County in an effort to promote excellence in education and focus on critical issues as deemed appropriate for local government.

VISION:

The County of Brunswick is a progressive community with a rich history that is committed to providing courteous, effective and professional service while assuring public welfare and safety, promoting economic development, excellence in education, recreational opportunities and a well-balanced community, which will enhance the quality of life for all citizens of Brunswick County.

MISSION:

The mission of Brunswick County is as follows:

  • Whereas, the Board of Supervisors shall focus on the vision and policies of the County, while encouraging and supporting public participation; and,
  • Whereas, the Board of Supervisors shall aggressively pursue recreational grants and opportunities for the citizens county-wide; and,
  • Whereas, the Board of Supervisors shall promote and support excellence in education, K-12 and in local colleges; and,
  • Whereas, the Board of Supervisors shall continue to be an active partner with the Industrial Development Authority to support, promote, and pursue job opportunities for the citizens of Brunswick County; and,
  • Whereas, the Board of Supervisors shall continue to enhance the existing housing stock of our community while promoting new developments; and,
  • Whereas, the Board of Supervisors shall continue to partner with its local townships of Alberta, Brodnax, and Lawrenceville and provide a positive working relationship to promote Brunswick County.

     VISION POLICIES

    Recreation

  • The Board shall establish a community that aggressively pursues recreational grants and opportunities for citizens county-wide
  • Develop County Park at Great Creek as an active park that has football fields, baseball fields, soccer fields, lights, horseshoes, playground equipment, concession stands and serves as an educational facility.   It will meet the recreational needs for people of all ages.
  • Continue to support the Brunswick Water Safety Committee that brings kids to Great Creek to fish and boat and experience opportunities that they would otherwise miss.
  • Promote lakes, recreation, tourism and study the economic impact that is realized from it.
  • Increase public awareness of park and recreational facilities and programs to promote healthy lifestyles.

    Education/Public Schools

  • The Board of Supervisors shall promote and support excellence in education, K-12 and in local colleges
  • Develop a professional learning community consisting of educational leaders, highly qualified teaches and highly qualified paraprofessional as defined by No Child Left Behind.
  • Provide all children access to high-quality and developmentally appropriate educational programs that help prepare children academically and socially.
  • Encourage every parent to be a child’s first teacher and devote time each day to helping such parent’s child learn.
  • Develop a school system rich in resources where students have the books and supplementary materials that enable them to be exposed to broad learning opportunities.
  • Offer alternatives for vocational/technical education that leads students to a lifetime of success and enables the County’s youth to use their skills to lead productive lives within the County.

    Job Opportunities

  • The Board shall continue to be an active partner with Industrial Development Authority to support, promote, and pursue job opportunities for the citizens of Brunswick County
  • Promote investments that increase the tax base, creates employment opportunities for residents, and generates adequate public revenues
  • Coordinate the County’s Economic Development Strategy with other community planning efforts
  •  

    Housing/Land Use

  • The Board shall establish a community with increased homeownership with a wide range of housing types and values that enhance quality of life
  • Identify residential redevelopment opportunities countywide.
  • Establish and maintain zoning requirements that insure homeowners are adequately protected from inadequate zoning.
  • Act in accordance with the County’s Comprehensive Plan, Subdivision and Zoning Ordinance to protect the health, safety and general welfare of the citizens of Brunswick County.

    Townships

  • The Board of Supervisors shall work in partnership with the three incorporate towns to create a thriving County where our children and their children will be proud to call home
  • Develop a joint vision with the three townships to create their ideal future and work together to achieve it.
  • Develop and promote strategies that foster the ideals of a successful and thriving Brunswick County.
  • Develop “Main Streets” for all three towns.  Main Street will include retail dining, and recreational opportunities.  It will offer residents choices that extend beyond 5:00 p.m. with an “open for business” approach.
