LAKE GASTON

Lake Gaston is a beautiful inland lake formed by the Gaston Dam. It is the second lake in a series of three lakes resulting from dams for hydroelectric power. The 34 mile length starts at the Kerr Dam and extends along the Roanoke River Bed to the Gaston Dam near Thelma, NC. The shoreline reaches approximately 350-miles and covers 20,300 acres of water rated A-2 by the NC Stream Sanitation Commission. Unlike other reservoir lakes, Lake Gaston has a carefully controlled water level which varies less than two feet under normal conditions.

This beautiful lake offers ideal facilities for fishing, hunting, camping, boating and an array of water sports. There are no horsepower restrictions on the lake. A number of public launching ramps are available. Neighborhood marinas provide complete marine services. For those interested in fishing the lake is stocked with game fish which include striped bass or rockfish, large mouth bas, bream, crappies, and several other varieties of catfish and sunfish.

Developed land around the lake is in subdivisions which are represented by property owner associations. Facilities and use of lake access in these subdivisions are restricted to the property owners and their guest.
